The Georgian badlands on horseback
The 6 days expedition is located in the semi desert of Georgia which offers unique landscapes. Our horses are wintering less than one hour from Tbilisi at the entrance of the Udabno, the semi desert area.
We start our horseback trekking at the edge of a patch of natural reserves and national parcs discovering along the trail spectacular sceneries. During this 6 days horse expedition we ride on hidden paths, visit on horseback some very old monasteries like David Gareja and Dodo where some monks are still living in, ride through multicolours canyons. We explore on our mountain horses the beautiful and huge cave dweller cities dating back the 6th century for the oldest and discover inside some frescoes dating back the 13th century. We galop across large green plains, trot in the multicoloured labyrinths and huge plateaus. The ghost dweller city of Udabno belongs to the Soviet history that Audrey will share with you.
We, on horseback, see among the others turtles, birds of prey and foxes as we are mostly 99% away from touristic trails. Some shepherds and their flock of sheep used to live here for wintering. We meet the Azeri pastoral community as well as some Georgian. With our horses around us, we set up the camp in the middle of national park and overnight under some starry skies.
From the eroded reddish mountains to the ridges offering impressive panoramas over the Vaschlovani depression and the Great Caucasus Mountains, we ride every day through a broad variety of landscapes alike some mini American badlands.
Finally we ride our adorable Tush mountains horses a local bred from the Caucasus Mountains living free all over the year:)
